THE A TO Z OF THE EIGHTIES
CARL McCOY
I don't think anything good happened in the Eighties,
particularly for me. I must be getting old. I think we're on our way
downhill. Everyone became quite aware of our environment, that
struck me, but it's far too late. The environment is never going to be the
same again.
I'm sure the Nineties are going to be a lot more chaotic
if anything, especially the late Nineties. It's not going
to get any better. I'd try and avoid it and keep out of everyone's way and
stay indoors. I think everyone's become greedy in every respect of life,
especially young people. They think of money and that's it.
Highlights of the decade for The Nephs - I don't think we've had any
yet. Being in a band and making records, it's just a fact of life. I don't
think we've actually achieved what we want to achieve
yet, but we're getting there. For a start, we want to be totally
self-contained, try to put our own studio together. We want to put out a
wider range of material and please ourselves.
I haven't been to a gig all year, apart from our own. Some of the better
ones were in the early Eighties when bands like Simple Minds
were still relatively low key. They were quite exciting times.
