Nov 3: Berlin, Germany at the FritzClub
As with the others, the official camp has not yet confirmed these
shows.
Hard Wired magazine offers reviews of the NFD/Saints
of Eden/Dark Horizon Barfly show as well as "Dead Pool
Rising" and the "Light My Way"
single. We've also added these to the Press section.

Release
Magazine offers a fairly scathing review of "Dead Pool Rising."
We've added it to the Press section.

The Kultur
Fabrik site announced this week that there will be a Nephilim gig in
Germany on Nov. 11 in Krefeld at Kultur Fabrik. Opening bands include Garden
of Delight.
At this point, four dates are in the offing, and more are likely on the
way:
Oct. 28: Waregem, Belgium at the Jeugcentrum
Nov. 4: Krefeld, Germany at the Kultur Fabrik
Nov. 11: Rimini, Italy at the Velvet Club
Nov. 15: Paris, France at La Locomotive
In NFD news, Music Towers has published a new
interview with Tony Pettitt. In it he talks about his ongoing
relationship with Jungle Records, offers a fairly compassionate view of the
"Fallen" release, and gives his take on "Mourning Sun":
"I think there's some good moments on it. My own personal thing
with it ... I think maybe some of it drags on a bit, but there's some cool
ideas in there. I think the reason we went our separate ways in the end when
we finished "Fallen" was that I really liked being in a band, but I think
[Carl McCoy] likes working on a studio project; just him and one other
perosn. And to me it sounds just like that -- it doesn't sound like a
band-project. I like the input of a whole band to make a sound. I wouldn't
diss it too much, I think it's a cool record. I think it's the record he
wanted to make, and I've done what I wanted to do, so I think we're both
happy on that score."
I have also added three new reviews of "Dead Pool Rising" to the Press section of the site. Let us know if you find
others in your travels!

A company called Ascension Promotions has announced that the Nephilim will
perform November 11 in Rimini, Italy at the Velvet Club. This and other
dates have not yet been confirmed by the "official" camp, but rest assured
we will keep you posted.
Also, we are pleased to announce Dead but Dreaming
t-shirts!. Cafe Press has finally ironed out most of the kinks in their
black-t-shirt-printing process, and the new shirts look pretty darn good. We
are selling these at cost, not at a markup. As a reminder, the bumper stickers are
also available and look spiffy.

For those of you in Portugal (or those who can wing your way there on
Friday), the O Lado Negro bar will host a launch party June 16 for NFD's
"Dead Pool Rising." The event includes full broadcast of the new album,
plus a DJ who will play music by NFD, Fields of the Nephilim, Nefilim,
Sensorium, Last Rites, Rubicon and Saints of Eden. For more information,
visit this MySpace
page.

Jungle Records announced a bunch of NFD news this week in honor of "Dead
Pool Rising," which is released in the UK tomorrow. Recent reviews have been
included in KKKK, UK Kerrang, Legacy, Orkus, Zillo, Sonic Seducer, Classic
Rock and Rock Sound -- and we'll try to track those down in the coming weeks
so that they can be included in the Press section of this site.
On June 26, NFD will open a new "downloads" section on its Web Site where the band's entire catalog will
be made available, along with exclusive live recordings.
NFD has a number of upcoming shows, and are planning a full European tour
in September:
June 21: Barfly, Camden, London, with Saints of Eden (which, of course,
includes Nefilim bassist Cian Houchin) and Dark Horizon
June 30: "Fright Club" at the
Mean Fiddler
July 8: Hobbits, Weston-Super-Mare, England
Sept. 13: Schwimmbad, Heidelberg, Germany
Sept. 15: Centre Roudemer, Steinfort, Luxembourg
Sept 16: Augsburg, Germany (venue to be announced)
Sept. 17: Benefiz Festival, Schloss, Jettenbach, Germany
Sept. 20: Proxima, Warsaw, Poland
Sept. 21: Ucho, Gdynia, Poland
Oct. 15: Carnival of Souls Festival, Derby, England
Thursday, June 1, 2006
Start your engines. Rumors have begun circulating that the Nephilim will
perform Oct. 28 in Belgium. Tickets may be ordered at the Purple Moon. Be advised that
this concert has not been officially acknowledged by the band. Others have
reported hearing that the band might play in Paris Nov. 15. Perhaps that
promised fall tour is finally shaping up. We'll keep you posted.
In addition, Andrew Collins' latest newsletter suggests that the Austin
Osman Spare tribute book, which was distributed as part of the RSPCA event
May 14, will be issued in a new edition later this year. This is good news
for fans who want to get ahold of the book, particularly because it should
include the Sheer Faith artwork that accompanies the text.

Music Street Journal has posted a review of
Mourning Sun.
Sunday, May 22, 2006
We have added Andrew Collins' interview
with Carl McCoy on Austin Osman Spare to the Press section. This came from the collectible book
sold during the AOS Tribute event held May 14 in London. Thanks to Cobweb

Jungle Records issued a bunch of new NFD news today, including the fact
that the band's "Light My Way" single hit UK stores on Monday, with the
video for the song heading to MTV2's "120 Metal Minutes." The band's entire
back catalogue is now available on iTunes in Europe and North America, with
Australia and Japan coming soon, and you can also download NFD tones at www.bandwagon.co.uk. "Dead Pool
Rising" is still scheduled for release May 30.
NFD has new gigs planned, including May 6 at The Peel in Kingston, June
21 at the Barfly in Camden, June 30 at the Mean Fiddler in London and
October 5 at the Carnival of Souls Festival in Derby.
And if that's not enough for you, NFD has relaunched its Web site and opened a MySpace page. Three of the new
tracks can be heard on the MySpace site. Enjoy.

"Mourning Sun" was due in U.S. stores today. Did any of you find it in
music shops?
Monday, April 24, 2006
Carl McCoy was interviewed this week on The Slab,
Kerrang! radio's weekly goth-music program. Click the link to hear
the file. The episode also features the radio edit of "Straight to the
Light," which is also available on a promotional single circulating among
radio stations. It doesn't look like Kerrang! archives past episodes, so
listen before Sunday!
Monday, April 17, 2006
There is an audio interview with Carl McCoy at this MySpace page, which
discusses the making of "Mourning Sun," confirms the plan to tour on the
album, discusses briefly McCoy's reunion with Richard Stanley, and more.
Warning: the audiofile begins playing as soon as you link to the site, so be
prepared.
Saturday, April 9, 2006
We've received a little more news about Carl McCoy's involvement in the
Austin Osman Spare book/event in Holborn May 14. According to one of the
organizers, the book includes an interview of McCoy by Andrew Collins
"exploring [McCoy's] interest in Spare, illustrated by a couple of Carl's
drawings." See the March 31 news entry for more details.
Sunday, April 2, 2006
It appears that video/film director Richard Stanley will be teaming up
with Carl McCoy/Nephilim to produce a new video for an unnammed song from
"Mourning Sun." Stanley produced the first two Fields of the Nephilim
videos, "Preacher Man" and "Blue Water," and cast Carl in the role of the
Nomad in his debut film, "Hardware."
The news was revealed late last week by the folks with Seven Management, which manage The
Nephilim. This is an interesting turn of events, considering Carl said in a recent interview
with Orkus magazine that he would not be working with Richard Stanley
again. For more information on Stanley's career, see the articles about him
in the Press section, or visit Between Death and
the Devil, a fan site devoted to his work.
In Orkus, McCoy said he planned to produce two MS-related videos. It's
not yet clear whether Stanley is signed on for one or both of the videos.
Also, according to SPV's USA
site, "Mourning Sun" will be released in the United States on April 24,
2006. This likely means it will be April 25, as previously reported on this
site, since US releases come out on Tuesdays.
Friday, March 31, 2006
Carl McCoy reportedly contributed to a new, limited-edition book that
will be available only during an event in honor of occult author Austin
Osman Spare in Holborn (greater London, UK) May 14. During the event, in
Fleet Street, there will be short talks by experts, and a few items of
Spare's will be auctioned. The funds raised during the event will benefit
the Royal Society for the Prevention of
Cruelty to Animals.
McCoy's contribution is one or more illustrations for the "Illustrated
Memorial Publication."
Tickets for the event will soon be on sale through Treadwell's Books in
London.

I've added a fabulously funny review of "Mourning Sun" to the Press section, courtesy of The Final Word, making it
our first archived article of the year 2006. It's worth noting that Fields
of the Nephilim diaspora musicians got more press in 2005 (that we're aware
of) of any year since 1988.
Monday, January 9, 2006
SPV has indicated that "Mourning Sun" will be released in the United
States on April 25, 2006.
Sunday, January 1, 2006
As promised, interviews with Carl McCoy from Orkus and Elegy magazines
have been added to the Press section. Thanks to
Rayvn and Ande for working on the transcriptions and translations.
Happy New Year to all the fans! News from 2005 has been moved to
the archive. With
the release of Nephilim's "Mourning Sun" and Last Rites' "The Many Forms,"
it was a busy year for us. The press archive is full of articles from 2005,
representing the enthusiastic worldwide response to the new music,
particularly to "Mourning Sun." This has been a heartening time to be a
Fields of the Nephilim fan.
As always, it's all of you who help us to make this site, list and
community what it is -- thanks to all of you for your support and
contributions over the years. And please remember to send any news or
tidbits our way!
Friday, December 23, 2005
We now have a translation of a "Mourning Sun" review from Noise.fi in
the Press section. After the new year, we'll add
translations of the Orkus and Elegy interviews.
Friday, December 16, 2005
All of the English-language reviews of "Mourning Sun," the Rocking.gr
translation, and the Alternative Zine interview have been added to the Press section of the site.
Wednesday, December 14, 2005
Last Rites' album "The Many Forms" has been reviewed in Obskure. It's
in French, but we hope to provide an English translation soon.
A Greek magazine, Rocking.gr, has a review of "Mourning Sun." We're hoping
for a translation on that one, as well.
Other recent "Mourning Sun" reviews include:
La Estadea also has a Spanish
interview with Carl McCoy. McCoy was also recently featured in a
two-page interview in Terrorizer. For now, you can see the first page and the second page as images
-- these are large enough to read the type -- and as soon as the flood of
press dies down, we'll transcribe these and most of the other press and
archive them in the Press section of the site. In
the meantime, many thanks to Laura for the Terrorizer scans and to
fellow fan sites for keeping up with all the recent articles.
There's some site news, as well. I've launched a Cafe Press store where, for
now, listmembers can purchase a stylish bumper sticker. (A black t-shirt
featuring the same design will be available soon, I hope.) At the top of the
page you can see the original Sumerland t-shirt design, created several
years ago before Sumerland became Dead But Dreaming. Items in the store will
be sold at cost. Many thanks to all of you for being such huge supporters of
the list, the site, and the bands.
I've also spent some time this week updating and revising the Recommended media
portion of the site. Everything in print has a link to Amazon.com, in case
you're having trouble figuring out what to buy for the Fields of the
Nephilim fan in your life this holiday season.
Wednesday, December 7, 2005
The official Nephilim Web
site has opened its mechandise section, and is selling several t-shirts,
sweatshirts, and music items -- including some limited-edition older singles
signed by Carl McCoy. (Your financially challenged Webmistress would love
the New Gold Dawn hoodie.) Check it out.

O Lado Negro bar in Portugal
will hold a record-release party for "Mourning Sun" on Saturday, Dec. 3. The
event will feature a full play-through of the album plus a DJ set including
FOTN rarities and outtakes as well as music from Nefilim, Rubicon, a full
play of the new Last Rites album, NFD, Saints of Eden, Sensorium, and cover
versions of FOTN songs by other bands. There will be promotional give-aways.
For more, visit the bar's Web site.

Alternative-Zine features a lengthy interview
with Carl McCoy. It's worth noting that while this interview is in
English, it was possibly translated from Hebrew, and that when Carl mentions
the "Storm Raiser" album he's likely referring to "Dawnrazor."
Folks who ordered their copies of "Mourning Sun" from Music Non Stop
received notice that their orders have been shipped -- so it looks as though
the album will keep to the latest release date, Nov. 28. Some have even
managed to find the disc in shops.

Last Rites' new album, "The Many Forms," is on sale now at the Last Rites Web
site!
Friday, November 11, 2005
There has been some confusion this week over whether there would be a
limited edition of "Mourning Sun," or whether there would be a regular
edition, or both. A message from the Watchman at the official site clarifies
this:
The first 25,000 copies of "Mourning Sun" that go into sales
are
a limited first edition with special packaging and the bonus track 'In the
year 2525'.
When these 25,000 copies are gone, It will switch to the normal edition
in a
normal jewel case WITHOUT the bonus track.
Exact release date is Friday Nov. 25th in Germany, Monday, Nov. 28th in
all
other European countries with the exception of Spain where the release date
is Monday, Dec. 5th (one week later) due to logistic
reasons.
At this point, neither addition is slated to have the previously
mentioned
video. The US release is still due in January, as far as we know.
Wednesday, November 9, 2005
A German fan who has read the recent interviews with Carl McCoy in Sonic
Seducer and other magazines passed on some tidbits in lieu of a full
translation (which we are still hoping to get). In them, McCoy reveals:
- It took McCoy 18 months to finalize the demos for
"Mourning Sun," but the final recording was done in a single take.
- He is still angry about the release of "Fallen;" he felt the album was
unfinished. He has secrectly he recorded everything again in his own
way -- meaning somewhere there is a finished version of the album awaiting
release.
- We still do not know which musicians played on "Mourning Sun."
- McCoy has many more songs written, some of which have been recorded and
could be released in 2006.
- Most of the "Mourning Sun" material was brought to completion in a
mobile studio called The Ice Cage. A good chunk of it was created in
Norway.
- McCoy is working on video material which might be released with
"Straight to the Light."
- His favorite video games at the moment include "Resident Evil" and
"Conflict - Desert Storm."
Saturday, November 5, 2005
Release
Magazine has posted a review of "Mourning Sun." Their review lists the
European release date as Nov. 25, a date echoed in this item at
Gothtronic. The US date appears to be holding steady as January 6. (Or
is that January '06?) Several CD sellers, including CDON and Amazon.co.uk,
are now taking pre-orders for both the regular and limited editions of the
album.
Friday, November 4, 2005
Carl McCoy is on the cover of this month's Orkus magazine. Additionally, SPV has
added a new
photo of McCoy to its Fields of the Nephilim page (scroll to the
bottom). If folks get copies of Orkus or Sonic Seducer, please let us know
-- or send us a transcript or translation!
Saturday, October 29, 2005
RoomThirteen has posted a review of
"Mourning Sun." (The writer gave it 9 out of 13.) In addition,
Rockdetector has updated its biography/history of
Fields of the Nephilim with a new promotional photo of Carl McCoy. This
is the first time one of these promotional photos has been officially
used.
Saturday, October 15, 2005
Sonic Seducer recently announced that its November issue will
feature a three-page interview with Fields of the Nephilim, followed by the
December issue with a "huge two-part story, sticker and track included on
the cover-mounted CD," according to listmember Ande.

NFD is putting the finishing touches on a new album, "Dead Pool Rising,"
which is due out early next year, according to a release from Jungle Records
today. They will be playing a number of shows in London in October and
November, including the Mean Fiddler Oct. 28, Whitby Gothic Weekend Oct. 29
and the Witchfest International in Croydon Nov. 5.
Additionally, NFD's live album, "Live and Unleashed," which was
originally bundled with "No Love Lost," is now available for purchase on its
own. To find out more, follow
the link.
Jungle is also releasing a "Gothic
Party Time" sampler including a remastered version of Fields of the
Nephilim's song "Power," the Nephilim track "Fallen" ("without the
cross-faded beginning and end") and an edited version of NFD's "Darkness
Falls."
Yes, it's true, we did have some other updates here recently regarding
new photos and music... but let's just say some "gremlins" ate them.
Friday, September 30, 2005
Cian Houchin, ex-bassist for the Nefilim, is in the studio working on a
new Saints of Eden double album. He has made some in-studio
video clips available on the SOE Web site. Good stuff!
We've also heard that the next Last Rites album is finished and ready to
go, and merely awaits a label/distributor.
Thursday, September 29, 2005
On Wednesday, Andrew Collins sent out a newsletter with some tidbits
about his ongoing work with Carl McCoy:
The new Fields of the Nephilim album entitled MOURNING SUN is
released worldwide on 18 November (06 January in the USA). I worked closely
with band leader and composer Carl McCoy during the making of this album,
and so read my first poetic impressions of it on the Nephilim official
website. Friendships aside, this is a classic album, the best since
'Elizium' (1991), and needs to be heard to be believed. Old and new Fields
of the Nephilim fans will not be disappointed. Of that I can promise. And
watch out for the prestigious tour next year!
Monday, September 26, 2005
The official Nephilim site
has been updated, confirming release dates for "Mourning Sun" (Nov. 18 in
Europe, Jan. 6 in the US) as well as the track list we already know. It also
reveals that no pre-album single is planned, and that "The rebirth of Fields
of the Nephilim is set for its assault on the world stage next spring and
summer with a series of key-note, and rather prestigious, concerts across
the globe."
The info
page has a brand-new picture of Carl McCoy on it. The site promises more
in the coming days, including an interview with McCoy.
The site also offers some impressions
of "Mourning Sun," in the form of poetry, from author and cohort Andrew
Collins.

As promised, I've added the first fan review of "Mourning Sun" in the
Community reviews section (thank you, David),
and the online reviews of the
album from RemixWars and Obskure to the Press section. Thanks to Ravyn and
Thomas for translating the French review so we could read it. Its author,
Emmanuel, also reviewed "Fallen" for Obskure in 2002. He seems to be quite a
fan.
Ravyn also translated the press
release from SPV regarding "Mourning Sun," which explains a bit about
how the album was made.
One of our listmembers has posted a nearly complete set of lyrics over on
the forums for The New, the Old and the
Nephilim. You can check them out here, although they may not be 100%
accurate:
"Shroud

"Straight

"New

"Requiem

"She"
"Mourning

Friday, September 23, 2005
Press reviews of "Mourning Sun" are beginning to turn up. Here are two
we learned about today:
Obskure
magazine
(in French; we'll try to get a translation)
Remixwars.com
Shortly, these and others will begin appearing in the Press section, and some listmember reviews will be
filed in the Community
reviews area.
Later: Just added listmember David
Wahlberg's review of "Mourning Sun!"
Thursday, September 22, 2005
MusicNonStop is selling a
limited edition version of "Mourning Sun" with the following bonus
tracks:
8. In The Year 2525
9. Bonus Video Clip
To find it, click on the link above and enter "Nephilim" in the search
field.
Several listmembers have been able to hear promotional versions of all
the tracks on the main album. So far the response has been positive! Join
the list to read what people are saying about "Mourning Sun."
Friday, September 16, 2005
A listmember claiming to have heard the album gave what s/he said is the
complete tracklisting for "Mourning Sun":
1. Shroud (Exordium) 5:45
2. Straight to the Light 6:24
3. New Gold Dawn 7:58
4. Requiem XIII-33 (le veilleur silencieux) 7:21
5. Xiberia (Seasons in the Ice Cage) 7:33
6. She 9:26
7. Mourning Sun 10:33
Others have speculated that the XIII-33 in the Requiem may refer to Mark
13:33 in the Bible, a line which reads, "Take ye heed, watch and pray: for
ye know not when the time is." The French "subtitle" translates to "The
Silent Watcher." Savvy fans will remember that the robot head Carl McCoy's
character found in "Hardware" was from a model of robot called the Mark 13.
Other folks suggested it might refer to Numbers 13:33: ""And there we saw
the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our
own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight."
Thursday, September 15, 2005
According to Sonic Seducer, some
of the
other track titles on "Mourning Sun" include:
"Mourning Sun"
"Shroud (Exordium)"
"Requiem Xiii-33 (Le Veilleur Silencieux)"
"Xiberia (Seasons In The Ice Cage)"
The site also echoes the Nov. 18 release date.
Tuesday, September 13, 2005
There is still quite a bit of confusion regarding the release date for
the new Nephilim album, "Mourning Sun." A representative with one of the
record distributors told a Psychonaut listmember it would be out Oct. 31,
while various parts of SPV's site still list a release date of Oct. 28. It's
unclear whether these are simply technical oversights, stale information
or something else. For what it's worth, European albums are typically
released on Monday, and the only Monday date given so far has been Oct. 31.
(Oct. 28 and Nov. 11 and 18 are all Fridays). In America, albums are
released strictly on Tuesdays.
It probably goes without saying that we won't know for sure when
"Mourning Sun" will be out until the day we have it in our hands. "Early
2005" has long come and gone.
Cheers to any new readers who may be coming to us after hearing news of a
new album -- and to any fans resurfacing. Drop us a line (links at bottom) or
join us on the Dead
But Dreaming list. The discussion, so far, has been lively.
Saturday, September 10, 2005
SPV/Oblivion has pushed back the release of "Mourning Sun" to Nov.
18 in Europe and Jan. 6, 2006, in the US.
Thursday, September 8, 2005
The official
Nephilim site (album art at the link) is now promoting "Mourning Sun,"
with a Nov. 11 release date:
"So the rumours were true. After much speculation and debate,
Those who have waited patiently are to be rewarded with the release
worldwide on 11 November of the stunning new album from FIELDS OF THE
NEPHILIM, long missed but back with arguably its finest offering to
date.
"To be entitled MOURNING SUN, it combines the atmospheric elegies of
previous classics such as ELIZIUM, whilst creating a powerful new
aural sound dimension led as always by the unmistakable vocals of
band founder Carl McCoy.
"The silence on what you are about to behold, has been justified.
We have remained still so that there was never any confusion about
release dates, names, formats, etc, and all in good time you will
learn more and more as the Sons of the Mourning prepare for the Day
of Reckoning.
"So hold tight, and the veil will be withdrawn. Soon ...
"In the meantime, brief sound files of three tracks:
'Straight to the Light', 'New Gold Dawn' and 'She' are available
online via record label SPV."
Wednesday, September 7, 2005
According to SPV, the new
Nephilim album will be called "Mourning Sun," is due October 28, and belongs
to the "electropop/wave" genre.
You can hear three audio
samples of songs called "Straight to the Light," "New Gold Dawn" and
"She" using RealPlayer.

One of our listmembers emailed Nod Wright a few weeks ago and asked when
the next Last Rites album, "The Many Forms," would be available. Wright
responded and said that the album is done and simply needs to be printed. He
said he expects it will be ready on The Last
Rites site in late September or October.
Meanwhile, the dates for the as-yet-unnamed Nephilim CD have shifted
again. According to the folks at the Playground/SPV record company, the
single will be released Sept. 19 and the full album will be available Oct.
24. This means the single date has been pushed *ahead* at this point, though
it was originally anticipated in August...
Sunday, August 7, 2005
Portuguese entrepreneurs have decided to open a Fields of the
Nephilim-themed bar called O Lado
Negro, which means "The Dark Side," apparently. Someone affiliated with
the bar explained that it is decorated with memorabilia associated with
FOTN and side projects such as Nefilim, Rubicon, NFD and Last Rites.
Posters, vinyl, pictures and other promotional items will be on display. The
bar
-- located at Rue Augusto Maria da Silveiro, 24, in Almada, Portugal -- has
its grand opening Aug. 12, and will be open regularly on Thursdays, Fridays
and Saturdays from 9:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. DJs will play music appealing to
their anticipated gothic and metal clientele. Sounds like it's worth
checking out
for fans who live in Portugal -- or who are just passing through.

Port logo always did remind me of the old FOTN Western-gothic
image.)

According to listmember David, Playground
Music Scandinavia is reporting that the Nephilim single will be delayed
until October 17 (yes, 2005).
Listowner John spotted an ad for the Mera Luna festival featuring a photo
of Carl McCoy and a note that reads something like, "Fields of the Nephilim
- Look Out Coming Soon."
Saturday, July 2, 2005
CDON.COM is
listing three new items in their "Fields of the Nephilim" section, two "TBA"
album-priced items with release dates of Oct. 31, 2005, and one, a
single-priced item, with a release date of Aug. 29. You can sign up to
monitor these items, if you wish.

It looks like folks tracking the Neph diaspora will have another band to
follow. Paul Miles, former guitarist for Nefilim, is in a new band called Subzeros with singer Spider Cullen,
bassist Mark Perry Harkin and drummer Steve Wags. They are a self-described
"Celtic brew of rock, goth and punk," according to their site. The site
offers a kind of bio, photos, sound clips and more.
Speaking of the diaspora, we recently heard from Cian Houchin, who has
been in and out of the studio working on music that could become future
Saints of Eden material. SOE has been playing shows in London, but Cian
reports that the band is "still up against the system regarding gigs and
distribution." Fans can find out more about what he's up to by visiting the
official Saints of Eden
site.
Folks on the Psychonaut list have once again been polling SPV for an
update on the new Nephilim release; apparently a single is now due in
August, not July, with the full album to follow. So much for "early
2005."
Tuesday, May 10, 2005
The official Last Rites site was
updated yesterday with news that the group's forthcoming album, "The Many
Forms," will be available soon. The tracklist is listed as follows:
- The Chalice
- Our Alibi
- Rageing Tide
- Guilt Sublime
- The Many Forms
- Body In Decline
- Moment Calls
- My World Alight
- And All Its Thorns
In addition, the limited-edition EP "My World Alight" is no longer
available.

NFD has its very first fan site at NFD - Break the
Silence, which has been put together by a German fan named Tanja. Visit
the site, enjoy the sections, and contribute!
Going through the Band links section
tonight, I've discovered that two long-time Neph sites have disappeared:
Last of the Western Heroes (the oldest site online at the time Sumerland was
started) and Leviathan Chained, which had vast amounts of research material
related to the Fields' lyrics and mythos. If these sites have simply
relocated, please send us the links, and if you know of any sites
we're missing, drop us a line.
Monday, April 18, 2005
Recent emails to the official site, inquiring
about the current status of the new album due "in early 2005," have gone
unanswered. However, a member of the Psychonaut list recently emailed SPV,
the record company contracted to publish the album, and was told that the
"new single is scheduled for July, [and the] album will follow in
October." Fans should probably regard this information with a certain
amount of skepticism, given the way "Fallen" and "Zoon" were released well
after their due dates, but we'll bring you more details as we get them.
Friday, April 1, 2005
Jungle Records issued a report today with some new NFD dates in Germany
(and one in Leeds). They are as follows:

May 29 Black Sheep (Bar Phono),
with Mist of Avalon, Leeds
August 13-14 Mera Luna Festival, Hildesheim
A Russian gig should be announced soon. In the meantime, Jungle has
released details on what will be on the 2-CD reissue of "No Love Lost." The
first disc will contain the album's original material, while the second disc
includes live versions of "Omen," "Unleashed," "Darkness Falls," "Turbine,"
"Stronger," "Move In Closer," "Enraptured," and "Break The Silence," and
studio tracks "So Let It Begin," and "Blackened (Art Stanton Remix)." The
double-disc is due at the end of April, and Jungle will offer fans the
option to order the second disc on its own. For now, you can download a
promo version of "So Let it Begin," and hear samples from five other songs,
at the official NFD site.
Saturday, February 26, 2005
NFD has announced more dates for its upcoming tour, including:

April 8 LONDON Mean
Fiddler (Another all-goth event, sponsored by Metal
Hammer; NFD will finish their set at 11 p.m. and will do a DJ set
afterwards)
Of course, the rest of the dates, including those supporting Mortiis, can
be seen below.
In addition, NFD is offering a free download of a promo version of a new
track, "So Let it Begin." The track will be included on an upcoming bonus
disc from the band. NFD also added clips from five songs from "No Love
Lost," all of which can be had over at the official web site.
And if that wasn't enough, NFD is reissuing its album in a 2-CD format,
accompanied by a disc of live recordings, remixes, and new music.

The other supporting band is Panic DHH. For more information, visit the
Mortiis Web site. Thanks to
Laura for the tip!
Saturday, January 29, 2005
Last Rites quietly released a new signed limited edition EP, "My World Alight."
The track list includes "My World Alight," "Full Circle - Cairo Mix,"
"Become Immune," and "Swallow the Soul - Intro." The lead track is from the
forthcoming album, which we now know is called "The Many Forms." The
site says it will be "available soon."
I have been remiss in mentioning this, but Ande Tucker's "Fields of the
Nephilim Collector's Guide" is now
available at Borders. Unfortunately, you won't find it in their stores,
but you can special-order it, either through stores or online at the
link.
Saturday, January 15, 2005
NFD has updated the schedule for its European tour, which kicked off last
night in Dresden. For a complete list of dates and venues, visit the official site.
Happy New Year to Nephilim fans! News from 2004 has been moved to

The Fields of the Nephilim
Collectors Guide, compiled over several years by listmember Ande Tucker,
is available for purchase at last. The large volume includes information on
nearly 700 items from 25 different countries, and is illustrated with over
750 images. It focuses on collectors' items for Fields Of The Nephilim, as
well as related bands: The Nefilim, Rubicon, Last Rites and NFD. Many
listmembers contributed to the book. Congratulations Ande!
Wednesday, November 10, 2004
The official
Nephilim site is now reporting that The Nephilim plan to release a new
album in early 2005: "After months of rumour and speculation, The Watchman
can exclusively reveal that the new album from The Nephilim is set to be
unleashed on the world in early 2005. It is a natural progression of the
band's classic sound which crescendoed as far back as 1991 with the release
of the hugely successful album 'Elizium.'" SPV is the anticipated to be the
record label. The label's H&R man, Gero Herrde, reports that the album "has
all the elements of classic Fields of the Nephilim. It is hypnotic and
inspiriting, and out there in a league of its own."
Monday, October 25, 2004

Monday, October 11, 2004
Fans/listmembers Zoonshe and Semjaaza have put together an article and artwork
(primarily by Zoonshe). The article was originally written in 2002 for a
now-defunct magazine called Delirium. In addition, Semjaaza has also created
a page examining the
art of Sheer Faith, Carl McCoy's graphics house.
While we're on the topic of other fan sites, there's a
review of NFD's "No Love Lost" over at www.FieldsOfTheNephilim.de. That site
also reports that Saints of Eden, featuring Nefilim's Cian Houchin, released
its third album, "Overload," Oct. 10. For more, visit the official Saints of Eden web
site.
And, we should have mentioned this sooner, but Sheer Faith created the
cover art for Andrew Collins'
latest book, "Twenty-First Century Grail," which is out now. The image is
included in Semjaaza's Sheer Faith page, above. More information about the
book is available at Collins' site.

Nocturnal Gauge, a goth club in Lisbon, Portugal, will hold a night
devoted to the music of Fields of the Nephilim (and related projects,
including Nefilim, Rubicon, Last Rites, Sensorium, NFD, Nephilim A.D. and
Saints of Eden) this Saturday, May 1, from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. The club is
held at the B23 Bar, located at Av. 24 de Julho, no. 12.
Monday, March 8, 2004
As sometimes happens, the Fields of the Nephilim legacy has served to
inspire a cartoon. This time it's at the "Unspeakable
Vault (Of Doom)". Also, for fans of Pazuzu (the topic of a Nefilim song
on "Zoon"), here's information about an "Exorcist"
theme park in Iraq.
Monday, March 1, 2004
Things have been quiet in Nephilim-land of late. Since the launch of the
official site, there
hasn't been much to report, and Last Rites is still reportedly working on
its next release. NFD is scheduled to
play the Dark City Festival Edinburgh on Sunday, April 11. Other bands
booked to play the weekend festival include the Mission and VNV Nation. For
more information or to purchase tickets, visit the web site. (Thanks to Mark
Quested for this tip.)
Friday, December 26, 2003
The server that supports this web site had some problems Tuesday; these have
since been resolved. If you tried to reach Sumerland in the past few days
and couldn't, that's why.
Monday, December 1, 2003
The official site has
been launched.
Friday, October 17, 2003
NFD's show at Dingwalls in London last night reportedly included covers
of "Celebrate," "Psychonaut" and "Preacher Man." If anyone has a complete
set list from the show, please send it along to us!
Earlier this week, a few listmembers reported going to the official
Nephilim site and being able to see the front page for the actual site
(rather than being asked for a login and password). It included sections for
pictures, media, links, merchandise and Sheer Faith as well as a section
called "24th Moment." By all reports the site looks reasonably complete. The
information section reports that author Andrew Collins is indeed functioning
as the "Watchman," the webmaster for the site.
Friday, October 10, 2003
Reviews of NFD's August 1 show are still filtering in; Starvox has written one as
well. The page features a number of photos, including several from the show
itself.
Friday, September 19, 2003
NFD has announced a new show, scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 16 at
Dingwalls at Camden Lock. The show is slated to begin at 8 p.m. and will
also feature performances by Saints of Eden (featuring Cian Houchin, who
played with the Nefilim) and Altered States.
There are more reviews of the Aug. 1 NFD show at Gaesteliste
magazine's web site (in German) and at La Magic Box (in
French; scroll down for the article). The set list for the show included
"Unleashed," "No Love Lost," "Welcome To My World," "Control," "Stronger,"
"Move In Closer," "Never Again," "Break The Silence" and "Darkness
Falls."
Prior to the London gig, NFD will perform at the Herbsnachte Festival in
Germany on Friday, Sept. 26.
The press is pushing NFD; a live radio interview with the band was
broadcast recently on Total Rock Radio
and an article is expected in the October issue of Orkus. Fans who get their
hands on press material related to the band are encouraged to type them up
and email them to us for inclusion in our Press
section.
Jungle Records is reporting that the "Break the Silence" EP, which was
due out Sept. 12, is now set to be released Oct. 6.
Andrew Collins released a new issue of his quarterly
newsletter this week. He did not mention his progress on any projects
related to Carl McCoy or The Nephilim.
Friday, August 22, 2003
Bittersweet Embrace has a review
of the NFD show at Camden. In addition, there is a press release about the
band (with no new information) and a large-size photo of the
musicians to be had around the web. Don't forget that the "Break the
Silence EP" is due out Sept. 12 in Europe.
Wednesday, July 30, 2003
You can now view a small version of Sheer Faith's artwork for the Andrew
Collins Questing Conference here.
Friday, July 25, 2003
The new official Nephilim web
site has occasionally been showing a flash animation intro featuring
Carl McCoy in a burning cottage. It's impressive (and loud) for what it is.
The rest of the time, we continue to get the login and password dialog box.
If you want a reliable Neph-related flash, you can always go to The new, the old ... and The Nephilim.
In addition, NFD has announced that
they will play a show in Germany, at the Herbstnachte Festival at Castle
Rabenstein on Saturday, September 27. For more information, visit the Herbstnachte Festival web
site. In addition, Descendants of Cain will open for NFD at their Camden
Lock gig August 1.
Friday, July 11, 2003
Andrew Collins has posted a review of "Genesis
Unveiled" by Ian Lawton at his web site. In the review, Collins makes
reference to another of his articles, "Walking with Serpents," which he says
can be found on the official The Nephilim web site. ("On-line shortly," he
qualifies.) In it he describes the settlement of Jerf el-Ahmar, which he
believes was one of the earliest settlements to be built after the great
flood referred to in the Bible and other texts. Although he paraphrases it
in this review, Collins promises we will be able to read the full article
soon.
Wednesday, July 9, 2003
NFD will be playing a private showcase and single launch party for
friends and media on Friday, August 1 at Mingling, The Stables Market,
Camden Lock (London). All members -- Peter "Bob" White, Simon Rippin and
Tony Pettitt -- are expected to be there, along with guitarist Peter Yates
and a selection of guests and DJs. A limited number of tickets will be
available to the public at the Jungle Records web site (look under
mail-rder, and then N), or at Resurrection Records, 228 Camden High
Street.
Detailed directions to Mingling are available at the NFD web site.
NFD's single, "Break the Silence," is due out September 12 on CD and 12"
vinyl.
Tuesday, June 24, 2003
Jungle Records has sent out
an official news release announcing the birth of NFD. There isn't much in
the way of new information; it re-iterates the lineup and release schedule
we already know. However, it does reveal that the single, "Break the
Silence," is nine minutes long and is characterized by a "crescendo of
guitars." Also, apparently the vinyl version of the single will have an
"exclusive different track" from those on the CD single.
Neil Brockbank (Roxy Music, Nick Lowe, Killing Joke) produced the
album.
NFD is tentatively slated to play a live gig in London in August. During
gigs, two other guitarists -- Chris Milden and Stephen Carey -- will play
with the band.
Thursday, June 12, 2003
Andrew Collins' web site has announced that Carl McCoy's Sheer Faith will
be designing the program for this year's Questing Conference. For complete
information, go
here.
Collins writes:
SheerFaith have designed QuestCon03's advertising flyer,
adverts, tickets and we even hope to produce special edition merchandise
which will go on sale via both the Eden - Andrew Collins website and The
Nephilim official website. The association between SheerFaith and Andrew
Collins has come about through a mutual respect for each other'ss work, and
a joint commitment to promote the world of the Watchers and Nephilim through
events such as QuestCon03.
Those on the postal mailing list will receive a full colour QuestCon03
flyer (which is 297 x 105 mm in size) with the current newsletter (Vol. 6
No. 1, Spring 2003), although copies are available by request from Andrew
Collins at PO Box 189, Leigh-on-Sea, Essex SS9 1NF. They are free provided
that a stamp addressed A4-sized envelope is enclosed (a smaller envelope
will suffice, although it means folding the flyer).
Monday, May 27, 2003
The NFD site is now updated with
sections about the band, information on releases, contact information and a
collection of links. The major news is that the single due out in August is
called "No Love Lost" and will feature three tracks, including "No Love
Lost," "Break the Silence" and "Unleashed." A 7" vinyl will include the
single track plus a demo of another song, "Control." These will be released
on Jungle Records. An album is planned for later in the year.
"Break the Silence" features guitar work by former Fields of the Nephilim
guitarist Peter Yates. The band hopes he will contribute to other songs as
well.
In addition, former Fields of the Nephilim/Nefilim/Nephilim bassist Tony
Pettitt is now considered a full-time member of the group: "At first Tony's
contribution was on a part-time basis , but when his recent marathon
Nephilim album sessions ended in 2002 he decided to join NFD full time,
adding his own distinctive mark to the music."
More at the link.
Also, we failed to mention this in the news item on May 12, but there
appears to be a new URL for the official Nephilim web
site. Currently whatever is there is password-protected.
Sunday, May 18, 2003
According to Psychonaut listmember Alan, he encountered NFD/Sensorium's
Peter "Bob" White at a show in Camden this weekend and learned that NFD is
working on a new single, due out in August.
Monday, May 12, 2003
Andrew Collins reports in his Earthquest News Vol
6 No 1, Spring 2003 newsletter: "In EARTHQUEST NEWS 5:3 I reported on
the fact that I was
working with Carl McCoy, the frontman and vocalist with premier gothic rock
band Fields of the Nephilim, now just The Nephilim. Together we have put
together the band's official website, which includes a large content of
magical material, including an exclusive new article by me on the Watchers
and Nephilim, an article by Richard Ward on the reality of H.P. Lovecraft's
Cthulhu Mythos and news of the foundation of a magical organisation to
guard, protect and disseminate the knowledge and wisdom of the Watchers and
Nephilim. It is now finished, although severe e-commerce problems have
caused unexpected delays. We want it to go on-line as soon as possible, and
we'll tell you when this happens. In addition to formulating the site, Carl
and I are working on other projects which can only be revealed as and when
they materialise."
Tuesday, May 6, 2003
Release Magazine reports:
"Peter White (ex-Sensorium), Simon Rippen (ex-Sensorium/The Nephilim) and
Tony Pettit (The Nephilim) are Noise for Destruction and will release their
debut single in the next few months. This single will include some or all of
the following songs: 'No Love Lost', 'Unleashed' and 'Break the Silence'.
The third track contains input from former Fields of the Nephilim guitarist
Peter Yates whom the band hopes 'will contribute to other tracks in the
future.' Currently, NFD have one song out on the Starvox 'Trinity Volume 1'
compilation and it is entitled 'Darkness Falls.' There still is no news from
Carl McCoy as to the release schedule of The Nephilim's new album which has
been worked on sporadically over the last year."
Wednesday, April 30, 2003
This may only be a rumor at this point, but it's worth mentioning: the
German TV channel Schattenreich reportedly showed the "Moonchild" video
recently and gave a new URL for the band: www.nefilim.com. This links to the site
for a label called Chemical Emissions. However, there are no obvious links
to Nefilim- or Nephilim-related projects at the site. More news as we
uncover it...
Thursday, April 24, 2003
This isn't really news; it's more like nostalgia. Listmember Dave
recently found an old flier advertising a show where Fields
of the Nephilim opened for Balaam and the Angel in Stevenage. Other
listmembers believe the show took place in 1985.
Wednesday, April 9, 2003
The May 2003 issue of Revolver Magazine includes
an article on gothic metal music and a list of 13 essential goth records.
The list is as follows:
Joy Division: Closer
Bauhaus: Singles 1979-1983 Volume One
The Cure: Pornography
Christian Death: Only Theatre of Pain
Alien Sex Fiend: Here Cum Germs
Sisters of Mercy: Floodland
Fields of the Nephilim: Dawnrazor
Type O Negative: Bloody Kisses
NIN: The Downward Spiral
Marilyn Manson: Portrait of an American Family
Rammstein: Sensucht
Cradle of Filth: Cruelty and the Beast
Lacuna Coil: In a Reverie
Thanks both to Zoonshe and Hal for emailing me about this.
Thursday, April 3, 2003
Noise for Destruction (NFD) has finally produced a sketch of a web site
with information pertaining to their lineup and plans for releasing music.
According to the site, the band will feature Peter "Bob" White on vocals and
guitars, Simon Rippin on drums and Tony Pettitt on bass. They are preparing
a three-track single featuring songs called "No Love Lost," "Unleashed" and
"Break the Silence." The latter track will include former Fields of the
Nephilim guitarist Peter Yates on guitar.
Meanwhile, someone from the official Nephilim site has sent an email to
one fan saying we can expect to see something new in two weeks' time.
Tuesday, April 1, 2003
For those out there still keeping track, the counter at the official site has changed
to 0, although nothing else about the site has changed.
Friday, February 14, 2003
Listmember Zoonshe has brought a new web site online called Glass Flats, Dune Sea. It's
devoted primarily to Carl McCoy's Nomad character in the Richard Stanley
film "Hardware," and includes scripts, interviews, reviews, news, and fan
fiction and art.
Friday, February 7, 2003
Nefilim drummer Simon Rippin will be drumming for Dance on Glass on their
next tour. For more information about Dance on Glass, visit their web site, which includes tour
dates in Poland, Germany and the UK.
Friday, January 10, 2003
The December 30 news item from Release Magazine gave information
that Last Rites are back in the studio working on a new album:
"The as-yet untitled sophomore album from the Wright brothers is currently
being worked on at an undisclosed location in England. The band recently
finished a tour of England to rapturous audiences. Dreamcatcher Records will
release this new album when it is finished. Nod and Paul Wright are best
known for their work in Fields of the Nephilim. They also worked with fellow
ex-Fields guitarist Peter Yates and currently re-enlisted Nephilim bassist
Tony Pettit under the name Rubicon in the early to late 90's."
Sunday, January 5, 2003
Added excerpts from and scans of the Computer Arts article with
Carl McCoy/Sheer Faith to the Press section. Many
thanks to Laura, who scanned the article and highlighted the relevant bits
to make my job easier.
Friday, January 3, 2003
Happy New Year! News from 2002 has been moved to the archives.
The January 2003 issue of the UK magazine Classic
Rock includes an article on gothic rock music that mentions Fields
of the Nephilim along with the Sisters of Mercy and a host of other classic
gothic rock bands. Lemmy Kilmeister of Motorhead is on the cover.
Thursday, December 19, 2002
Author Andrew Collins has released the Saturnalia edition of his newsletter,
which includes many details about his work with Carl McCoy on the official
Nephilim web site. Among the things he reveals are:
- A new album is anticipated next year;
- The web site will include a number of articles Collins has written,
specifically for the site, about the band;
- The web site will also contain mythological information about the
Watchers and Nephilim of Enochian tradition;
- Collins has written an exclusive piece for the site about an ancient
Turkish temple associated with Watcher mythology;
- The site will include information related to the Cthulu mythos;
- Collins and McCoy have been working together on "various projects,
including the official web-site, which is going on-line soon."
For a full account, visit the above link to the newsletter.
In addition, McCoy-as-Sheer-Faith is interviewed in the Winter 2002
edition of a UK computer art magazine called Computer Arts. The
article is primarily about 3-D graphics and animation, and the magazine
includes a small 3-D self-portrait supposedly from an animation project
associated with the band's activities. For more information on the issue, go

Added two more items to the Press section,
transcriptions of a Beggar's Banquet special and an interview with Peter
Yates and Tony Pettitt on MTV's 120 Minutes, both of which aired in 1991.
These are interesting -- especially the latter one -- as they took place
just before the band announced its breakup. Much of what's said in that
interview seems to point to a change in direction; just not the sort Peter
and Tony were expecting. Thanks to Anette, who transcribed and emailed these
items to us!

We are fairly certain that the "member of Fields of the Nephilim"
referenced in an article here
about the band Submerge is Paul Miles, who played with the Nefilim on
"Zoon" and did a few live dates with Carl McCoy in 2000. (He also appears in
the new release "Fallen"). (Scroll down to see the item.)
The given band description for Submerge is:
"Submerge are a new dance/goth/rock outfit based in London who are doing a
completely new type of music that is underground at the moment but will rise
up and take its rightful place in history very soon. It's not that the music
is completely original as some of it sounds like normal trance music. It's
the way it blends modern synth sounds, '80s tendencies and dreamy pads with
rock/goth guitars and vocals that are deep and mysterious. It almost sounds
like Billy Idol doing trance in a new modern age. Submerge is the brainwave
invented by the guitarist from classic goth pioneers Fields of the Nephilim
who wrote the classic goth and rock gem 'Vet For The Insane.' Some true cred
there. Leaving the past behind. This song called 'As Worlds Collide' is
dance/goth rock and pop combined in a new way with trance and dance sounds.
Great for those late night hedonistic wild party nights when you're dressed up
to thrill. Watch this space for more details. Submerge are different and
great and this grows on you the more you spin it. Hey DJ this will burn your
goddamn house right down and hopefully injure Sophie Ellis Bexter at the same
time."

Added two new articles to the Press section: a
1996 Nefilim article from Terrorizer, and the Last Rites article in the
current issue of Kaleidoscope (#13). Thanks to Anette and Sabena for
submitting them!
Sabena also reports that the Nephilim track that comes with Kaleidoscope
is Subsanity, and the interview with the band is an edited version of Carl
McCoy and Tony Pettitt's 2001 interview with Greg Karjiannis entitled "Don't
Be Afraid of the Dark."
Friday, November 29, 2002
Music
Non Stop (MNS) has reported that issue #13 of Kaleidoscope
magazine features an interview with Carl McCoy, and a Fields of a Nephilim
track will appear on the accompanying CD. No details yet as to which track
it is.

newsletter to UK fans saying the disc is available now, even though it won't
be commercially released until 2003 (according to them). However, this

company to make sure before buying it.
In more DVD news, Richard Stanley's "Hardware," featuring Carl McCoy, is

called Trinity
Volume 1 - Starvox. Their track, which opens the disc, is called
"Darkness Falls." NFD features Peter "Bob" White of Sensorium, Tony
Pettitt of Fields of the Nephilim and Rubicon, Simon Rippin of Sensorium and
Nefilim, and John Carter, who was a guitarist on early Nefilim demo
tracks.

The Watchman UK, spokesperson for the Official Site, sent this
missive to fans:
Many thanks for your longevity, and continued interest and support in The
Nephilim. You have probably noticed that Jungle Records decided to release
certain demos and unfinished samples that were never intended for release.
The Nephilim's official stance on Jungle's actions can be found on the
existing splash screen of the upcoming official Nephilim website
(http://www.fieldsofthenephilim.co.uk), which we hope you have had a chance
to check out recently.
Jungle Records have responded to our words, and this can be found around
if you look hard enough. For The Nephilim, the matter is old news, and it is
now looking forward to returning to the studio around Saturnalia to put the
finishing touches on brand new material for release in the new year. Of the
usual high standard that you will expect, it will appear under the name The
Nephilim, now the band's permanent title for the release of its aural
soundscapes for the nocturnal mind.
In the meantime, the final tweaks are being made to The Nephilim official
website. It will contain a cornucopia of visual and literary delights for
not only the existing fanbase, but also those who have sort to discover the
true origins behind the Nephilim of ancient textual accounts. The site will
in addition contain lengthy features on the band's history, inspirations and
magickal connections, as well as a fully interactive, yet restricted, area
to be known as The Watchman. Here will be found, among other morsels of
delight, free downloads of Nephilim material available only for limited
periods of time, along with a brand new live video interview for your
pleasure. (Information about Watchman membership will not be announced until
the site is open).
To ensure that the website is magickally potent in every respect, The
Nephilim has embraced the talent of historical writer Andrew Collins
(http://www.andrewcollins.net), author of FROM THE ASHES OF ANGELS and THE
BLACK ALCHEMIST. From this ritual collaboration has come new projects of
equal calibre to be revealed soon. So, join with us in the count down to the
opening of The Nephilim site.
Not long to wait now. Hope to be on-line by the beginning of December
2002.

Cdnow.com
is listing the Revelations/Forever Remain/Visionary Heads DVD, and lists a
release date of December 10. They are already taking pre-orders, so it looks
promising. The DVD has Region 1 encoding (for US and Canada only).

Added a new Last Rites article from the March 2001 issue of Deo2.com
magazine to the Press section. Many thanks to
Sabena for finding it!

Richard Stanley fan Lauri has opened a web site devoted to the filmmaker,
Between Death and the Devil. The
site has information on all his films, including documentaries, short films,
films he didn't finish and films he's working on now.
Wednesday, October 17, 2002
Listmember Laura emailed Beggars Banquet regarding the note in "Fallen"'s
liner notes that a DVD version of "Forever Remain" was in the works. Beggars
representative Steve Webbon responded: "It's being rush released so should
be out in around a month."
Monday, October 15, 2002
Andrew Collins, author of "From the Ashes of Angels," one of the
definitive texts on nephilim mythology, has just completely redesigned his
web site. You can visit it here.
Collins also has a new book out, "Tutankhamun: The Exodus Conspiracy,"
co-written with Chris Ogilvie-Herald.

Jungle Records has issued a statement regarding Carl McCoy's
non-endorsement of "Fallen":
Fields Of The Nephilim's 'Fallen' is a fantastic album and Carl McCoy
is a true star, an enigma and a visionary. We regret that Carl McCoy is
not endorsing the album. Over five years we continually requested that
he provide us with recordings and artwork that he was satisfied with.
However, the struggle for perfection seemed endless and there was no
sign of anything more ever arriving. So we owed it to the fans who'd
been waiting for so long to exercise our only option, which was to issue
these wonderful recordings.
Also, thanks to the efforts of Mark Quested, the discography has been updated.
Wednesday, October 9, 2002
Quite a few visitors to this site ask me about Richard Stanley, the
filmmaker who worked with Fields of the Nephilim on a number of their
videos. A fan of his recently contacted us and let us know he's still
working in the film industry, mainly doing documentaries. He just finished
two new ones, including one called "The Secret Glory" (about an SS officer
who sought the Holy Grail) and "The White Darkness" (about voodoo practices
in modern-day Haiti). In addition, he's producing his first feature film in
years, "Viy." Information about the latter film can be found at the
Sellout Pictures web site (click on "Viy" on the left hand side). Thanks
to Lauri for the information.

The official web site
(counter now at .01) has released a statement regarding "From the Fire" and
"Fallen," as follows:
Many admirers of Fields of the Nephilim/The Nefilim will be aware that
Jungle Records of Camden have put out a single entitled 'From the Fire', and
an album named 'Fallen', under the recording title 'Fields of the
Nephilim'.
A few statements are necessary to make the situation clear for fans of The
Nephilim worldwide.
Neither the single nor the album is officially endorsed, or is being
promoted by the current band, which records under the name The Nephilim, and
has not officially used the name Fields of the Nephilim since 1991. It is
not a name that it wishes to use again for future recordings, feeling that
it is best to move forwards than go backwards.
The title 'Into the Fire', as well as the track listing on 'Fallen' were
allotted by Jungle Records alone. None of the names are official titles,
although some are early working titles. The Nephilim played no part in
deciding on the track listing nor the material used, and was not consulted
on these matters. Those tracks used are incomplete pieces or early
demos.
Additionally, The Nephilim was not consulted on the artwork used on
either the single or album. It was not asked to contribute artwork, and thus
it was not undertaken by Sheer Faith.
New material by The Nephilim is being readied for release, and will be up
to the standards it wishes to set. This will be tied in with new projects
and live events.
Please be patient, and in the meantime we extend a welcome to all fans, old
and new, to prepare for the countdown to enter the inner realms of The
Nephilim On-line. Watch this space for further details.
This information has come from The Watchman Information Service, which has
served as the official voice of The Nephilim since 1984.
Zillo magazine has posted an item about "Fallen" as well,
which calls the album a disappointment.
Lastly, I added a new review of "Fallen" -- from Release Magazine -- to the Press section, and updated a few dates on some of the
Richard Stanley pieces, thanks to Lauri, a fan of his who contacted the
site. Also, Matthew Rochford, who wrote "Fields of the Nephilim: A Brief
History" for the August, 1990 issue of Music Collector, sent scans of the
original piece, which can be viewed here.

"From the Fire" has fallen off the UK charts.
Jungle has finally released the tracklist for "Fallen," which is as we
reported it earlier:
Dead To The World
From The Fire
Thirst
Darkcell AD
Subsanity
Hollow Doll
Fallen
Deeper
Premonition
One More Nightmare
In addition, they have given the tracklist for the limited edition bonus
CD:
Endemoniada
Last Exit For The Lost
Dawnrazor
The Sequel
The release date for the limited edition 2-CD set, which includes the
second live disc, has been pushed back one week, to October 14.

Metropolis
Records is now listing "Fallen" at its web site. Among other things, it
says: "Their newest album (and first for Metropolis Records), 'Fallen,' takes
their 'dust and death' image to a deeper level. Each track is dramatically
heavier than their previous work, which allows the band to explore new
levels of musical genius. Hard rock songs and atmospheric tracks are blended
brilliantly together to form a coherent revolutionary journey into
'Fallen's' depths."
Tuesday, September 24, 2002
Last Rites will be playing on October 31 at Water Rats in London. This is
intended to be a warm-up gig for their headlining show at the Whitby Gothic
Festival in November.

"From the Fire" has entered the UK Top 75 Singles chart at #62. To see
the full list, go
here.
Thursday, September 19, 2002
Folks in the UK who pre-ordered their "From the Fire" singles have been
receiving them this week. The general consensus so far is that people are
disappointed -- although some have said the song is growing on them. Many
have noted that the live tracks appear to be taken directly from the
"Forever Remain" video recording. The "band" lineup given in the single's
credits is Carl McCoy and Tony Pettitt.
"The Watchman" at the official site has offered a rebuttal to Jungle's
comments yesterday:
"As for Jungle's statement about Carl endorsing their releases, if there is
any doubt about our information service, isn't it strange that Carl /
Nephilim are not promoting those releases?"
Tuesday, September 17, 2002
Jungle Records sent out a note yesterday countering the statement from
the official web site (see August 22):
"The so-called statement reported is not directly from Carl McCoy and
therefore we have not considered it worthy of commenting on.
"However, 'Fallen' is a fantastic album, and Carl McCoy is a true star,
an enigma and a visionary. We've been privileged to work with him over
the past 5 years, and indeed since 1986. And we must say that of course
the album is released with The Nephilim's full knowledge and permission!"
List member Zoonshe has unveiled her new Fields of the Nephilim web site,
Over to the Other Side.
It focuses primarily on the artistic relationship between Fields and
filmmaker Richard Stanley, who made many of the band's videos and cast Carl
McCoy in his film "Hardware." Drop by and have a look!
Friday, September 13, 2002
Jungle Records has announced that a UK limited edition digipak of
"Fallen" will be released (cat. no. FREUD CD 063L; vinyl LP cat. no. is
FREUD 063). Both will have a second disc of live material, the contents of
which are unknown at this time. The record company has promised full details
soon.
Short- and long-sleeve t-shirts are now available at the Last Rites web site.

Added an English translation of the Obskure "Fallen" review to
the Press section.
Friday, September 6, 2002
Jungle Records has announced that the release of the "From the Fire"
single has been postponed one week to September 16 in the UK.
The single will be distributed by SRD in the UK; Suburban in Benelux;
Audioglobe in Italy & Greece; Mystic in Poland, SPV in Germany, France,
Austria and Switzerland; MNW in Scandinavia; Alter Ego in Canada and
Metropolis in the USA & Canada.
They add: "No news of any gigs or merchandise as yet, we'll keep you
posted.
Saturday, August 31, 2002
The French online magazine Obskure has posted a
review of "Fallen." We'll try to get this into our press archives as
soon as we can get a good translation of it. In addition, on August 30 they
posted a short news item about the album:
"Carl McCoy serait en colere : "Fallen" serait sorti sans son autorisation,
ne comprendrait pas tous les titres r?alis?s par le groupe en studio, et
serait agremente de visuels qui ne sortent pas de chez Sheer Faith.
L'affaire semble avoir atterri entre les mains de ses avocats. La sortie
va-t-elle etre repoussee -- Ici, on enquete, on vous tient au courant et a
tout dire... on est un peu inquiet."
Roughly translated, it gives much the same information as we had before:
That "Fallen" is being released without McCoy's authorization, that the
artwork was not made by Sheer Faith, and the collection does not include all
the material McCoy has been working on. In addition, it reports that McCoy
has gone to his lawyers -- a fact that a couple of fans have heard via
emails from the official site. Although the news item asks whether the release
will be postponed, we haven't heard anything to that effect.
The official site
countdown is at .24.
Thursday, August 22, 2002
Several disgruntled fans emailed the official site earlier this week
after receiving news from Jungle Records about the contents of the "From the
Fire" singles as well as their marketing schemes. The response they got
is noteworthy:
"We have spoken to Carl about 'The Fallen,' his forthcoming release. Carl
looked surprised and asked me what tracks were on it. We think that that
says it all. Well, not quite, We asked Carl why the art work was not done by
Sheer Faith. Carl told us that he had not been asked to do it. In short he
thinks that 'The Fallen' may be of interest to those who have money to throw
away or are interested in collecting studio off-cuts. As a special favour to
Carl We have agreed not to mention 'The Fallen' ever again. We asked Carl to
sign our advance copy of the single. All we can say is that Carl put them
back in the fire."
Those who have heard "From the Fire" say that it is part of the "Dead to
the World/The Way That We Were/Thirst" demos that have circulated on the 'net
in the past few years, although we are not yet sure whether it has been
changed or worked on since those demos were made.
Cover art for the new single and album currently bear the name "Fields of
the Nephilim." Legal right to use that name is reserved by the four other
members of the original lineup: Nod and Paul Wright, Peter Yates, and Tony
Pettitt. Apparently only Pettitt was in any way involved in the writing or
recording of the material that will be included on "Fallen." In other words,
Jungle seems poised to release an album of material under a name which they
have no legal right to use, and which has been disavowed even by those
musicians (Carl McCoy) who stand to gain from its release. Pettitt has not
spoken up about it thus far.
We still have not gotten a complete and official tracklist from Jungle,
but if the notice above is any indication, "Fallen" should not be mistaken
for a new Fields of the Nephilim (or Nefilim, or Nephilim, or Fields of the
Nephilim AD) release. Although the music will be new to many fans, it is
clearly not sanctioned by the musicians. In addition, we are unclear why the
countdown on the official site seems to coincide with the release of the
Jungle material. We will post more information as it becomes available to
us.
Fans who may be interested either in contacting Jungle Records or the
official site may do so via the following URLs:

Jungle Records has released details on the "From the Fire" singles, due
out September 9. There will be two CDs and a 10-inch vinyl single:
- CD1: From The Fire (radio edit), From The Fire (extended version),
Trees Come Down (live). Catalogue no: JUNG 65CD1
- CD2: From The Fire (radio edit), Love Under Will (live), Laura (live).
Catalogue no: JUNG 65CD
- 10": From The Fire (extended version), From The Fire (radio edit),
Moonchild (live) Catalogue no: JUNG 65T
The label reports: "Both the 'From The Fire' single versions are
different to the one that will appear on the album and the four live tracks
are from the late 1980s and have never been on CD or vinyl before." They are
also freely admitting that the three singles are, in part, a marketing ploy
to get the single on the UK charts.

The new Fields of the Nephilim single, "From the Fire," is scheduled to
debut tomorrow (Sunday, August 18) on The Batcave, a show on Total Rock Radio. More information
about this show can be found at this web site. The show
airs from 3 to 6 p.m. British Standard Time; listeners in the States can
listen via the Internet through the Total Rock Radio web site
